Who Is Eligible?

Am I Eligible?

HERA is built for women working in skilled trades and for eligible women-owned businesses whose work, products, or services directly support trade and trade-related industries. Basic HERA membership and directory listings are free.

If HER Work Is the Trade

You may be eligible if you are a woman working in a skilled trade or skilled service field, including areas such as:

  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • HVAC
  • Carpentry
  • Painting
  • Construction
  • Cleaning
  • Landscaping
  • Moving
  • Roofing
  • Welding
  • Fabrication
  • Machining
  • Automotive repair
  • Collision or body work
  • Mechanical service
  • Other qualifying skilled trades and services

HERA includes individual tradeswomen, independent providers, mechanics, technicians, contractors, and other women whose professional work belongs within the trades.

If HER Business Supports the Trade

You may also be eligible if you own a business whose primary work, products, materials, equipment, or services directly support skilled trades, construction, repair, maintenance, improvement, fabrication, property, automotive, or another related skilled industry.

Examples include women-owned businesses offering:

  • Tools and equipment
  • Fixtures and cabinetry
  • Hardware and building supplies
  • Flooring, tile, and materials
  • PPE and workwear
  • Architectural salvage and reclaimed materials
  • Automotive parts, services, repair, restoration, or fabrication
  • Specialty manufacturing or fabrication
  • Other products or services directly connected to the trades

You Do Not Have to Personally Perform a Trade

If you own an eligible trade-related business, you do not have to personally be the electrician, mechanic, fabricator, installer, or technician for the business to belong on HERA.

What matters is whether the business itself belongs within the industries HERA was created to represent. The master plan specifically allows women-owned product, supply, material, automotive, and other trade-related businesses alongside individual tradeswomen.

What Does Not Qualify

HERA is not a general women-owned business directory.

A business does not qualify simply because a woman owns it.

For example, a general:

  • Boutique
  • Restaurant
  • Beauty business
  • Unrelated retail company
  • General thrift or resale store

would not normally qualify.

But the category matters. A resale business specializing in things like architectural salvage, furniture, fixtures, tools, or building materials may qualify because its actual business is directly connected to the trades.

Still Not Sure?

Some businesses will fall into a gray area, and that’s okay.

If your work or business supports the people, products, materials, equipment, properties, vehicles, or industries behind the trades, submit it for review.

HERA will determine whether the listing fits the directory.
